How it works

1

Enter length, width, and depth

Feet and inches for length and width; inches for depth/thickness.

2

Set waste percentage

10% is the common allowance for spillage and uneven subgrade.

3

Read cubic yards

Net volume, volume with waste, and bag-count equivalents.

Enter the slab or footing dimensions in feet and inches and get the volume in cubic feet and cubic yards — the units concrete is actually ordered in. Add a waste/overage percentage (10% is standard practice for most pours) and see the equivalent in 60 lb and 80 lb bag counts for smaller jobs.

For takeoff work, this is the CY step of an area-times-depth measurement — the same operation PDFDepth's volume takeoff performs directly on the drawing.

Questions, answered

27 — a cubic yard is 3 ft × 3 ft × 3 ft. Concrete is ordered by the cubic yard (often rounded to the nearest quarter or half yard by suppliers).
